Squeezing a tube of paint makes me happy. After that action, I just paint. Sometimes contemporary realism is my goal and I want to render a 2” diameter olive in a martini. Sometimes the urge to get dirty and work with spackling compound, various mediums, plastic fencing, and sanded grout comes before the paint. Other times it is all about color in an abstract form. I love all the processes and the fact that they are never the same, they never get boring, and they never, ever produce the same result.
Mary Anne O’Neil received a B.S. in English from Loyola University New Orleans, and an Associate’s Degree in Interior Design from Delgado Community College. She ran her own interior design firm for 16 years, and has had 4 of her clients’ homes featured in local publications. In recent years, painting part-time was not enough, so she dissolved her corporation and now devotes her time to studio work. She is the Chairman of the Visual Arts Visiting Committee at Loyola University New Orleans.
